Movements, Moments at Target Gallery

Circle Dances is included in Movements, Moments is a new digital and in-person exhibition at Target Gallery. This exhibition aims to create a dialogue on work that focuses on the intersection of art and movement. This can be represented as physical movement as visual expression, such as dance or performance-based work, or movement represented conceptually, such as exploring the idea of growth or the passage of time. This is an all-media group exhibition with filmed performance-based work and video work encouraged.
This exhibition will be presented both on a digital platform and physically in the gallery space. Click image to see a digital catalog of the exhibition.

Breeden Endowment Grant

Recently, my project, Contemporary Cast Sculpture Drawing: Bringing Greater Diversity and Inclusion Into the Studio Art Classroom, was fully funded by the 2021 Daniel F. Breeden Endowed Grant Program at Auburn University. This project aims to introduce a contemporary and inclusive approach to the practice of academic cast drawing by commissioning diverse, naturalistic portrait sculptures from a living artist. The Daniel F. Breeden Endowed Grant Program supports teaching and learning projects that directly benefit the instructor, students, and Auburn University’s overall teaching program. It is managed by the Biggio Center, and the grant review and selection panel is drawn from the University Senate Teaching Effectiveness Committee. Click image for more information about the program.

SECAC Conference 2020

At this year’s SECAC virtual conference, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University, I chaired a panel titled “The Figure Beyond a Constructed Ideal: Representing Contemporary Bodies and Identities in the Studio and the Classroom.” The panel, comprised of national and international artists Daniel Esquiva Zapata, Alaina Plowdrey, Alexandra Giannell, and Evin Dubois, focused on creative scholarship in the realm of figurative art. Participants discussed various ways of representing bodies in a contemporary context, and examined a range of approaches to the human form that expand upon or transcend classical, academic, or popular-culture ideals of representation.
