MYTHIC NATURE

Mythic Nature – The forest is a primary source of inspiration in my practice. By entering, one can transcend the present into mythological space, where decay and growth become a reflective setting to contemplate non-human space and time. In this body of work, lush, wooded landscapes evoke collected visual experiences from the environment around me.

I base my painting practice on intuition and discovery, gradually uncovering themes and imagery through lived experience, dreams, and collected influences. Paintings act as a portal for the viewer to envision the perspective of the hunter or the hunted. Sacrificial animals embody recent collective trauma, acting as a stand-in to take on the gravity of current events at the periphery of our consciousness. Indirect (underpainting/glazing) and alla prima painting methods mix, creating a careful atmosphere of light underneath various gestural textures, suggesting racing thoughts and anxious energy, manifesting as verdant growth paradoxically frozen in time.
