NYMPH SERIES VIDEOS
Nature is a recurring source of inspiration in my practice—forest ecosystems, where decay and growth intersect, create reflective spaces to consider non-human time and mythological presence. Solitary exploration in natural settings dissolves boundaries between body, self, and the landscape, creating a heightened awareness of natural rhythms and ephemeral transformations. I explore these ideas through atmospheric paintings and movement-based videos. To make videos, I set up a camera and move intuitively. Later, I cut and layer excerpts to explore time, sequence, and chance among figures, choreographing interactions through editing.
This series was created during a residency at Graves Mill Farm in June 2025. Inspired by imagery of nymphs in stories and paintings, I sought to capture the essence of the landscape experienced at sunrise. Seen as personifications of nature, nymphs are symbols of female desire and agency that cannot be domesticated unless by force or punishment. I am too old to be a nymph as a middle-aged woman, but I still want to be feral and free, nonetheless. Through this work, I also contemplate the term nymphomaniac—a word for a woman with insatiable sexual desire, rooted in Greek myth’s nymphs. Nymphs, desire personified, are often victims of abduction and assault. Are they asking for it?
